If you’re on Instagram, chances are that on a daily basis you see men with amazing hairstyles, having a head of hair to die for. You probably think that it’s all fake, that having such perfect hair requires professional hair care, that all those men have some insider secrets that are not available for the rest of us. You probably think that you could never have hair like that.
It can really ruin your confidence.
Well, my friend, I’m here to tell you it is absolute nonsense.
They’re not doing anything special, and there are certainly no secret hair care tips involved. Following certain rules is all they’re doing, and I’ll share those rules with you, because I’ve been following them for years, and they work 100% of the time.
I’ve been styling my hair since I was 12 (I’m 26 now), and over the years I’ve learned so much and made so many mistakes.
Based on my personal experience as well as thorough research I’m about to present to you what I think are the most important things when it comes to healthy hair.
I’ve followed all these rules myself, and the results I got were amazing.
So, without further ado…
Hair care tip #1
Do not shampoo your hair more than you need to
What do I mean by that?
Well, we’re all different, and there’s no certain rule regarding how often you should shampoo your hair.
The only rule I think you should follow is ‘Don’t shampoo every day’.
Washing it using shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils. In order to clean all the nasty stuff that makes your hair dirty, shampoos need to be strong. And that’s why they remove those natural oils in the process of cleaning.
How often do you need to wash your hair?
Well, if it gets greasy after two days, then, wash it every two days. Just don’t wash it every single day.
Every time you use a shampoo, also use a conditioner. Conditioners nourish your hair and give it back some of the stuff that shampoo has removed. So it’s very important for the health of your hair that you use it.
You can use dry shampoo if you don’t want to wash your hair very often.
You can also rinse your hair with water as many times as you want. Water doesn’t damage your hair at all.
Hair care tip #2
Consider using some kind of hair oil
Hair oils promote healthy hair growth. They contain a lot of healthy minerals that will benefit your hair greatly. They also make it softer, which makes anyone who runs their fingers through your hair want to do it again and again and again. (A huge plus if you ask me)
When it comes to hair oils you have many options, but I’m going to list 3, which I think are the best.
# Argan oil
Natural, organic argan oil is known to be the most beneficial oil for your hair (you can also use it on your beard and skin).
It’s proven to make hair softer, silkier and shinier and it’s the ideal hair conditioner. If you apply heat to your hair consider using argan oil because it’s an excellent heat protecting agent.
How to use argan oil?
Well, I like to use it on wet hair, right after my washing routine. Using hair oils on dry hair can make it shinier and more greasy looking.
# Coconut oil
Organic, extra virgin coconut oil has many benefits for your hair, and after argan oil is probably the best oil you can use.
It stimulates hair growth. Coconut oil goes directly into the strands of your hair, making them healthier and stronger, and is much more efficient than normal conditioners, because it dives deep into the core of the hair.
Coconut oil promotes the scalp health, fights dandruff and dry scalp. It is even used to fight lice and prevent hair loss.
How to use coconut oil?
It’s best used as a hair mask. Apply a small amount of coconut oil to your hair and scalp, and really work it in. Let it sit for some time (1 hour, a few hours, you can even leave it in during the night and shampoo your hair the next morning)
Don’t use coconut oil after the shampooing routine because it will make your hair very greasy.
#Hair serums
Hair serums are mostly synthetic products (They usually contain a certain percentage of natural ingredients), but that doesn’t make them unhealthy. It just means that they’re probably not as healthy as 100% natural options.
They have a lot of beneficial elements that promote healthy hair and they are a great option.
Serums make your hair silky smooth, and there’s really not much to them except the fact that they feed your hair and make it softer and shinier.
Use them on wet or dry hair. Try it out, find what works better for you.
Hair care tip #3
Use high quality products
TRUST ME, you really want to avoid 1.5$ shampoos and 4$ hair clays.
Find a good shampoo, one that doesn’t contain a lot of unhealthy chemical such as sulfates, which can be harmful to your hair.
Next, buy a good conditioner. Like the shampoo, the conditioner is also very important, so find one that works for your hair, and you’re good to go.
Now when it comes to styling products, you really want to spend some extra money, because it will give you three things.
First, it’ll be healthier for your hair because companies that produce high-quality hair products use better ingredients.
Second, you will get a better hairstyle that lasts all day and looks more natural.
And third, cheap products can leave a nasty residue in your hair, which can look gross, especially the day after, if you haven’t washed them out.
Hair care tip #4
Protect your hair from heat
Yes, heat damages your hair. If you only use a blow dryer, it won’t cause as much damage as if you’re using flat iron or curling machine, but nevertheless, you should use heat protection if you apply any form of heat to your hair.
The first option is heat protect spray. The name is pretty self-explanatory. You spray it whenever you apply heat to your hair.
The second option, as mentioned before, is argan oil. Natural heat protecting agent, which also makes your hair healthier and softer.
Hair care tip #5
Let your hair breathe
If you use hairstyling products on a daily basis, it would be good to give your hair a rest once in a while. No products, just leave it as is for a day or two. Go through with your shampooing routine, put a few drops of oil, and just forget about it for a few days. Your hair will thank you for it, trust me.
Stop neglecting your hair.
Take good care of it.
It’s well worth it.
