How to be more interesting is not a question many people ask themselves. People tend to believe they’re very interesting and don’t get me wrong, aside from a small portion of just straight-up boring people, most of us are pretty interesting when we allow our real selves to shine.
The problem is, however, most people just don’t work on themselves, they don’t cherish their uniqueness, they don’t spend much time doing things they truly enjoy. In today’s world, it’s pretty easy to fall into a trap of putting yourself last, and not giving yourself the attention you deserve, and in such conditions, smothering everything that makes you interesting is kind of a given.
When I talk about how to be more interesting, I don’t want to make you think you’re not an interesting individual, and if you do the things I tell you you’ll magically become as magnetic as Russel Brand. All I’m trying to do is give you some tips that’ll help you put your best foot forward, develop some good habits, and inevitably make you a more interesting person to be around.
Let’s face it, just hanging out, spending free time doing nothing but Netflix and chill, might be a good option every now and then, but anyone who gives that answer to the question “How do you spend your free time?” is the one who needs this article the most.
Replace boring habits with something more interesting
The very first thing to do is to slowly start replacing boring things you do on a daily basis with some more interesting activities.
As I mentioned before, it’s not that watching Netflix every night is making you boring, it’s just the fact that people tend to enjoy talking and spending time with someone who does unorthodox things in their free time a lot more than with people who just sit and scroll through Instagram for 3 hours.
Start incorporating some new things into your daily activities. If you’ve had a few go-to places for ordering food for years, try some new restaurants. Visit new places, do something you’ve never done before.
It’s not like from now on all you have to do is new stuff, it’s just the matter of mixing it up a bit. A few times a month do something you’re not used to, and you’re good
Start consuming higher quality content
If you’re someone who consumes a lot of boring questionable content, now’s the time to stop spending all your time on TikTok and start investing it in something a little more worthwhile.
I’m guilty of spending too much time on YouTube, but I try to balance it out by being conscious about the quality of the content I consume, so I’d suggest you do the same. Instead of watching the same old same old, you’ve been watching for years use your time to learn something new.
Listen to an interesting podcast, watch a documentary, listen to some good music.
Or here’s a suggestion no one’s gonna adopt. If you play video games, replace the time you spend on PS with reading.
It’s all about how you spend your free time
Having a fancy hobby is one of the best ways to add pizzazz to your life. No matter what it is, a man with a hobby he’s passionate about is instantly perceived as more interesting and desirable.
Make a habit of asking unorthodox questions
One of the easiest ways to become a more interesting conversationalist is to stop asking generic questions and instead think of something more unorthodox. When it comes to interacting, especially with new people, asking some universal questions is usually the go-to move for 95% of people. And that’s where you come in, with your interesting and unexpected questions.
For example, instead of asking “What music do you listen to?” ask something like “if you could perform one song on stage in front of 50k people, what would it be?”
Or
Instead of “Do you have any pets?” say something like “Here’s a picture of my cat, for years now I’ve been trying to figure out whether it hates my guts or just doesn’t give a crap, what do you think?”
Just try to think of something silly and funny to ask, and make sure that it’s relevant to the topic. You might get away with one or two random questions, but mostly, you’ll want to follow the natural flow of the conversation,
Allow your true self to shine
One of the most crucial steps when it comes to being more interesting is to work on developing your confidence.
As with everything else in life, confidence is one of the most important determining factors of success.
Confidence allows you to be free to be yourself, it allows your inner genius to shine. Don’t be afraid to say what you think. Don’t be scared to express yourself. Confident people say and do what they believe in, and that’s what makes them stand out.
